“Vernunft und Freiheit bleiben unsre Losung, und unser Vereinigungspunkt die unsichtbare Kirche”

These words, that Hegel wrote to Schelling at the end of January 1795, express a shared, fundamental need within Classical German Philosophy: namely, a philosophical redetermination of the political, social and religious dimensions of humanity, after the outbreak of French Revolution and its divergent outcomes.
The aim of the international conference is to understand Philosophy of Religion in this context, and consider it as a key question implying a critical reassessment of reason and freedom. Its specific status as a middle-ground discipline between theoretical and practical is to be tackled through the lens of a historical and systematic perspective. Being the locus to discuss the relationship between finite and infinite, the concept of the absolute and of our community-oriented nature, Philosophy of Religion can bring forth paramount conceptual resources to address thinking and action at once, to elaborate new models of rationality and, through those models, to meet the challenges of epochs of crisis.
The conference, therefore, aims to create a space of confrontation, to explore the different configurations of Philosophy of Religion among the representatives of Classical German Philosophy. To this end, the conference will take place over two days and will include a keynote lecture on Kant, one on Hegel, one on Jacobi and Fichte, one on Schelling and one on Hölderlin. It will be divided into three plenary sessions; lectures will be followed by Q&A sessions. At the end of the conference there will be a roundtable session, to discuss topics of the current debates in Philosophy of Religion stemming from Classical German Philosophy.
