We are very glad to announce that the call for the 2023 hegelpd-prize is now open!

The prize (currently at the 4th edition) is awarded to high-quality scientific contributions in the field of Hegelian studies that have been recently published. The winning author will be invited to discuss their work with the members of hegelpd’s research group.

The 2022 hegelpd-prize was awarded to Gregory S. Moss’s volume Hegel’s Foundation Free Metaphysics: The Logic of Singularity (Routledge, 2020), and Susanne Lettow‘s article Re-Articulating Genealogy. Hegel on Kinship, Race and Reproduction, published online by the Hegel Bulletin in March 2019 (later appeared in «Hegel Bulletin», 42 (2), 2021, 256-276).

Eligibility

  • Articles and books related to Hegel and\or remarkable interpretations of Hegel’s philosophy which have been published in the last two years are eligible. The call for the 2023 prize is then open to books and articles published in the years 2021 and 2022. For books, only the first edition is valid; for articles, eligibility is determined by the year of the journal’s volume.
  • For the hegelpd-prize are considered works written in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese.

Nominations

Anyone interested in classical German Philosophy can submit nominations.
Nominations are individual and can include self-nominations as well as proposals of an eligible work, which could be discussed at hegelpd.

Questions may be directed to hegelpdprize@hegelpd.it.

Entry-details

Nominations should include:

  • the author’s name,
  • the article/book’s title,
  • the journal/publisher’s name,
  • the publication year.

Each nomination should be attached with a brief explanatory statement (max. 1000 characters) to substantiate the proposal.

Incomplete or late submissions, as well as nominations to which no statement of reasons is attached, will not be taken into consideration.

The submission process is open until March 31st, 2023.

Nominations should be sent via email to hegelpdprize@hegelpd.it.

Selection process

A selection committee will read all submissions and rank them according to the mission of the prize, namely: to choose the work devoted to Hegel in 2021/2022, which (i) meets the scientific interests of the research group of classical German Philosophy of Padova and (ii) provides hegelpd the opportunity to discuss a challenging line of research meant to reframe the contemporary Hegelian debate.

The selection committee members are chosen among the Editorial Staff and the Editorial Board of the blog on the basis of their experience as researchers in the field of classical German Philosophy.

The winner will be chosen at the end of May 2023 with a justification of the criteria for the choice.

Award

In the hope that circumstances will allow it, the winner will be hosted at hegelpd and will give a talk in a workshop devoted to the presentation of her/his/their contribution. She/He/They will be expected to take part in a debate with some discussant, who will ask her/him/them questions on the work presented for the prize and will engage in its critical discussion.

The exact date of the workshop will be decided jointly by the prize winner and the research group.
