We are glad to give notice that the workshop “Value and Ontology in Nature: Reflections on Central Themes in Environmental Philosophy” with Eric Katz (New Jersey Institute of Technology) will take place on November 2nd, 2023, 2.00 pm – 7.00 pm, at the University of Padova (Aula Diano, Palazzo Liviano).
The workshop is organized by Luca Corti (University of Padova) and Pierfrancesco Biasetti.(University of Padova – Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research).
Eric Katz (the New Jersey Institute of Technology, USA) is a prominent figure in the fields of environmental ethics and philosophy of technology. Over the past 30 years, he has shaped various debates in these areas through numerous articles dedicated to environmental ethics and the ontology of the natural world. His research extends to current issues such as environmental restoration, geoengineering, and de-extinction. His work, “The Big Lie of Human Restoration of Nature,” has become a classic in the discourse.
This workshop aims to delve into Katz’s key theses on the ontology of nature and the normative issues that arise from them. Following an initial lecture where he will revisit his main theses, three discussion sessions are planned, each introduced by a presentation.
Please find here the flyer of the event.
