The conference KANT-SIDERATIONS / KANT-SIDERAZIONEN intends to explore – through the contribution of Italian and international experts – different and multifaceted dimensions connected to the thought of Immanuel Kant, on the occasion of the tricentenary of the philosopher’s birth (1724-1804).
The conceptual need to continue reflecting, even today, on the thought and legacy of Immanuel Kant is not only due to the fact that he is a philosopher who marked an irreversible turning point in the history of thought and made a substantial contribution to the history of logic, rationality, aesthetics and ethical autonomy, but also to the importance of the prosecution of a discussion with a philosopher who has been the subject of wide-ranging and multifaceted reflection by authoritative intellectuals of 20th and 21st century Italian philosophy.
In fact, national and international research on Kant is still very prolific today, both from a philological and interpretative point of view, and increasingly willing to measure itself against the challenges of the contemporary in the most various fields and with a transdisciplinary vocation, three aspects on which the conference will focus. First of all, the discovery of new, unpublished manuscript sources will be presented; then an attempt will be made to assess the theoretical value of interpretations and reinterpretations of Kant’s philosophy in Italy; and a number of investigative perspectives will be proposed in the current international comparison with Kant’s philosophy.
The conference will therefore be divided into three thematic sections, which will address the following dimensions:
1. The new unpublished sources of Kant’s thought. This section will present the discovery of the aforementioned new manuscript sources / The sources of Kant’s thought, i.e. the relationship between Kant’s thought and the sources of his time.
2. The interpretations of Kant, i.e. the reception of his thought in the 19th and 20th centuries in Italy, but also in Europe.
3. The new contemporary and transdisciplinary (artistic, scientific, etc.) interpretations and resonances of Kant’s philosophy, i.e. its reception from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day with respect also to urgent issues of our time (such as environmental ethics or gender studies).
Finally, there will be a concluding Think Tank for students, PhD students and interested members of the public entitled Sprache mit Blick auf Kant / Kant’s language to reflect together on the relationship between Kant’s language, translation and the dissemination of philosophy.
