On the occasion of the sixth birthday of hegelpd we have launched the first edition of hegelpd-prize. The prize is meant to award a contribution, recently appeared in the field of Hegelian studies, which could offer a challenging possibility of discussion for the research group of classical German philosophy in Padova.
The latest year’s prize was granted to Angelica Nuzzo’s Approaching Hegel’s Logic, Obliquely. Melville, Molière, Beckett (Suny, 2018).
This year we received a large number of noteworthy proposals, which aroused a lot of interest in the committee members. The prize is intended to award not the “best” contribution – we do not want to make rankings – but the one that, for innovativeness and originality, seems to meet the research interests of hegelpd. We sincerely thank all the researchers who have submitted their own or others’ contributions.
On that basis, we are happy to announce that the hegelpd-prize 2021 goes to Christoph Menke’s volume Autonomie und Befreiung. Studien zu Hegel (Suhrkamp, 2018). Christoph Menke will be invited to Padova to present his work and to discuss it with the members of the research group at hegelpd and everyone who is interested, once it is possible to hold in-person seminars. We will keep you updated!
Due to the large number of outstanding works that have been nominated, it was considered to also award a mention to an article. This year’s mention for the hegelpd-prize goes to Berta M. Pérez, Hegel’s Time: Between Tragic Action and Modern History, which appeared in Hegel Bulletin, 40 (3), 464-483.
In addition, the editorial staff of hegelpd decided to give an honorable mention to the work of Klaus Vieweg dedicated to Hegel’s biography: Hegel: Der Philosoph der Freiheit (C.H. Beck, 2019)
