We are pleased to share the essay Il vero baratro della ragione: la questione dell’assolutamente necessario in Kant by Barbara Santini, published in the volume Morality, Ethics, Religion between Classical German Philosophy and Contemporary Thought. Studies in Honor of Francesca Menegoni edited by Luca Illetterati, Armando Manchisi, Michael Quante, Alessandro Esposito and Barbara Santini (Padova University Press, 2020).
Here below you can find the abstract of the text:
The paper discusses the Kantian question of the impossibility to determine the necessary being. The aim is to sketch the proper performance of the proofs of God’s existence on reason itself by focusing on the «true abyss» experienced in the absolutely necessary. Their achievement is first shown in the irreducibility of the idea of absolutely necessary to the transcendental concept of God, i.e. the idea of the supreme being; secondly, it is exhibited in the resistance of this idea to being translated on the regulatory side, according to which all three ideas of reason, that is, soul, world and God, have an immanent use.
